Winter Calling
by Rebekah Griffin Greene, 1991

White
Snow
White
Love
Does not fall on me I cannot
Taste the icy kisses or the
Cool caress of winter, only
Tepid winds adore me lift my
Hair up as in worship, only
Veiling nets of fog will dare to
Touch my naked cheek
Love
White
Snow
Whiteness pure electrifying Winter cold is
welcome here
Enfolding me in your stiff softness
Frozen cotton, sweet meringue of the
Land before Rebirth, when my heart will
Melt with yours, into
slushy life-filled water
Give me
White
Snow
White
Now
Wait--I think I hear a snowflake calling for
a kiss...
